Philippine Educational Theater Association’s SINGKWENTA is a trip down memory lane. Though it may seem like a PETA history class, it shines with thoughtful reminiscing, and showcases some of PETA’s finest works for the past half a century. This one summarizes in a nutshell five decades of artistic excellence and freedom, offering new PETA audiences and followers a stunning array of its creative past.

SINGKWENTA, as an anniversary concert, celebrates 50 years of empowered artistry, matchless culture, and enduring passion. And PETA still continues on, striving to sustain its primary trust to educate, transform and complete the Filipino and his humanity through the magic of theater.

As its narrators revisit the past 50 years, we get a chance to see some of PETA’s timeless works like BATANG RIZAL, CAREDIVAS, HANGGANG DITO NA LAMANG, 3 STARS AND A SUN, and RAK OF AEGIS. Director Melvin Lee orchestrates a fluid 2-hour narrative of PETA’s history: remembering its pains and commemorating its glories.

When you see SINGKWENTA, you see how privileged we are as a community and as a nation to have something like PETA striving on. We realize how the arts can liberate and help define our being Filipinos. By placing their works and talents at the forefront of the battleground, PETA transforms us, without dismissing the call to continue with our unending fight for freedom, human rights, education and justice.

I silently cried with deep appreciation, and cheerfully celebrated the magic of theater during the curtain call of PETA’s SINKWENTA last night. I never thought I’d see something as beautiful, and as empowering as this.

5 STARS OUT OF 5!

Thank you, PETA!
Cheers to your next 50 years!
